This is just a way for me to keep track of the places I’ve seen. I used the Traveler’s Century Club’s Official List of 321 Countries to help me catalogue the ones I’ve visited so far. If you take a look at the list, you’ll probably notice that some countries have been included even though they are not technically countries in their own right – they’ve been included because they are removed from parent, either geographically, politically, or ethnologically. It makes sense when you think about it… visiting the Canary Islands is a completely different experience from visiting mainland Spain, and you can’t really say you’ve been to America if all you’ve seen is Hawaii. It’s just a different way to look at the world, I suppose. And it means there are that many more places to visit! ;)
As I continue to blog about these places, they’ll start to show up as links and in the drop-down “destinations” menu above. :)
Oh, and for the record, I’ve not counted places where I just stopped at the airport.
